As promised, a quick restaurant review now and again....
I went to Sequoia in Georgetown for the first time this past Saturday night with a group of friends. It was my first time in the 8 years I've lived in northern Virginia to patronize one of the restaurants along Georgetown's waterfront, and no one could believe it. The fabulous views, outstanding people, and beautiful patio, though, can not make up for the egregious and wholly shameful fact that the food at these restaurants is known to be...hmm, how to put this nicely?...awful.
Full disclosure: I didn't really eat. I was there to drink, and I had a few...well maybe more like several...glasses of an excellent Chablis. Now, when I say I didn't really eat, it's because I didn't eat a full meal. I shared a salad that someone else ordered (it was a tomato salad, and it was excellent). However, someone else ordered calamari, and it tasted like greasy breading. We sent it back. Many people judge a restaurant by the quality of their bread basket. I do, too, but I raise the bar a bit. Since calamari is one of my favorite dishes ever, an inferior version leads to a little black mark in my Zagat guide.
Here's my advice: Pick a beautiful summer evening, hit the patio at Sequoia with your SO and/or friends, have some drinks, and then decamp to one of the many excellent restaurants in Georgetown for a real meal.
